Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!
Admittedly, I don’t pay too much attention to cover changes and I don’t let them get to me. However, there are some that I noticed. A couple for the better, but mostly for the best.
First up, the ones that I hated.
I hate this cover redesign deep in my bones. The first is the original hardcover (for the US) and the second is the paperback. And, guess what? The rest of the series is going to have people in it. Ugh. I do not like it. The first cover was better.
I don’t know why, but I’m not a fan of the new coloring. Meh. I like the white background more than the orange one. Plus poppies, to me, are red. Not orange.
Now, the changes that I loved!
I love the new American covers. They look so good! They’re so modern and lovely and ugh. I seriously adore them.
Yep, the one that has Liesel dancing with Death is way better. I’ve said it. I think it just looks so much better and is an apt cover for the story.
I like this one more because I think it’s more representative of Vin’s character. And, it’s not as busy/confusing. It looks more professional. I really do like it more. This redesign is a win from me.
- All of the Pelican Shakespeare copies
I have no idea what the original Shakespeare copies look like, but omg do I love the Pelican copies!! Right now, I’m trying to just get my favorites, but I’d love to have a whole collection of them because they’re just so. damn. pretty.
But, that’s it! That’s my list. I love more book covers than hate them.
Which covers do you love? Which do you hate?
Totally agree with you on the book thief covers. Great TTT!

Thank you! And, it just feels like a more accurate cover? The domino scene was so small in the book but oh well.

I have a print of that book thief cover up on my wall – it’s one of my all time favourites – it fits the book perfectly! Great list 😊

The Seafire cover change is HORRIFIC. I really hate how they’re always replacing good covers with covers with people on them for no good reason. Great post!💜

Me too. Like, the new cover deters me from reading it even though I’ve read the first book. Just not a fan.

When I first saw the paperback cover for Poppy War, I thought it was like a printing error. It just…doesn’t look good, and the black and white of the original is far more striking and memorable. And I love both covers for the Book Thief! I like how reflective of the story the right one is, but I also really like the atmosphere of the left one.

Yes, exactly! The paperback copy of The Poppy War just doesn’t look right at all. I don’t like the orange. I wish I liked both covers for The Book Thief, though.

I loved that you didn’t even say anything about IT haha it was obvious xD

Bahahaha probably because I forgot to tbh 🤷♂️

let’s say it was done on purpose and that there wasn’t a need to say anything XD I don’t like the orange version of Poppy Wars either

I’m going to go with it. The orange just doesn’t work? Like it doesn’t go with the red.

It doesn’t work at all. Orange is not the new black
