Down the TBR Hole | 8/15

Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

IT WORKS LIKE THIS:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

The Well of Loneliness

I’m definitely keeping this one. It’s lesbian fiction and I know that I want to see if I like it. Plus, I own it and it’s been on my shelves for years.

Verdict: Keep

Salammbô

Thanks Goodreads for having NO DESCRIPTION. I had to Google it until I found something that told me what it was about. But, it sounds interesting? But I’ve read something by Flaubert and I don’t know if he’s my kind of author.

Verdict: GO! (to maybe shelf)

Swann's Way (In Search of Lost Time, #1)

Admittedly, meta fiction doesn’t usually interest me. So, I don’t think this one will work for me.

Verdict: GO!

The Perfect Prince: The Mystery of Perkin Warbeck and His Quest for the Throne of England

Perkin Warbeck is very interesting. Usually, he’s a footnote of Henry VII’s reign (which is eclipsed by Henry VIII’s in general) and I rarely see it mentioned at all. So, I want to read something that’s about it.

Verdict: Keep

After Midnight

It sounds interesting, but when I see it’s blurbed by Koontz I get a bit nervous. That and I don’t know how well it’ll have aged.

Verdict: GO!

Shades of Grey (Shades of Grey, #1)

Yeah, this looks like it would have been my thing in 2014, which was when I added it. Now? I’ve been Fforde a try and I don’t think he’s for me.

Verdict: GO!

Catherine the Great: Love, Sex, and Power

This is more recent than the other Catherine the Great biography I’ve read. It sounds a bit more updated, which is something that I like the sound of.

Verdict: Keep

A Royal Passion: The Turbulent Marriage of King Charles I of England and Henrietta Maria of France

I’ve read a little bit about their relationship, but not much. But I think it’d be an interesting read because this is an interesting period in general.

Verdict: Keep

The Fears of Henry IV: The Life of England's Self-Made King

I’ve never read anything about Henry IV. I think that it’s time to remedy that.

Verdict: Keep

The Romanovs: The Final Chapter

Massie is a great Russian historian. However, whenever I see his name I think about how old the thinking in the book might be. But, still, it sounds interesting because it focuses on finding the bodies and the DNA that proved we finally found all of them.

Verdict: Keep

Last TBR: 1536

What can I say? I have a weakness for historical nonfiction.

Talk to me!
What genre do you have a hard time purging?

August TBR, aka my impromptu N.E.W.T. TBR (including a new tag schedule!)

Caidyn's TBR

This is the last month of my insanely ambitious TBR. I’m seriously going to try to calm myself down next month because, guess what? Classes start up again at the end of this one! And this ambitious TBR now includes me deciding that I’m going to do the N.E.W.T.

Also, I’ve decided that I’m going to try a new schedule for book tags. Stay tuned to the end because that’s where it’ll be! (Also, it’ll be on our home page.)

N.E.W.T. TBR!!

I’ve never taken part in this, and I’m super excited. I had my eye on O.W.L. this year, but didn’t do it. And now I thought “what the hell” and just decided to go for it. Might as well, right?

Out of all the professions they had available, I decided to go with a Hogwarts Professor! On brand for me. Even more on brand is that I decided to be a History of Magic professor. That means I have to get an O in the subject I want to teach (i.e. History of Magic), an E in Defense Against the Dark Arts, and two additional A’s in subjects of my choice. My choices are Transfiguration and Potions!

History of Magic

A – read a fantasy

Gideon the Ninth (The Ninth House, #1)

I’ve had my eye on this one since it was announced by Tor.com. And that means I’m so fucking excited that I got my hands on an ARC and can read it. It’s also one I need to read this month and fits for the prompt!

E – read a book with a map

Shadows of Self (Mistborn, #5)

All of his books have maps, so this is a safe bet. I also want to read this to see if I’m really going to enjoy wave two of the Mistborn series. I was okay with The Alloy of Law and it was good, but didn’t measure up.

O – reread a favorite OR read a classic

The Great Gatsby

Technically, I’m doing both here! I count this as one of my favorite books even though I honestly, I don’t remember when I read this the first time. But I did read it in my senior year of high school for AP Lit. Had to write a stupid paper about colors. I wanted to die. But, the book is good and I want to see if I still like it!

Defense Against the Dark Arts

A – a book that’s black under the cover

Doctor Sleep (The Shining, #2)

It’s Stephen King, so all of his books are black under the cover. (And just black/bleak inside.) I read this way back when it first came out and really enjoyed it. Now that the movie’s been announced, I really need to reread it.

E – 1st book you remembered from your TBR

Kingdom of Souls

I don’t know why this is the first one I remembered, but it is. I’m very excited to read this! It sounds very good and yeah. Gimme that diverse fantasy.

Transfiguration

A – read a book with LGBTQ+ rep

I Was Born for This

One of the MCs in this is a transman, which I always need more of in my life. I desperately have wanted to read this one. Finally decided to get it for myself! I cannot wait to read it.

Potions

A – read your friend’s favorite book

How to Make a Wish

Friendship is messaging your friend early in the morning needing to know a book I haven’t read yet that she loves. And, as usual, Chantel came through with this one!

Now, that’s my N.E.W.T. TBR. I also have other books that I need to read this month. This should be expected by now!

ARCs

Ah, hello insane ARC list (some of which were included in the N.E.W.T. TBR). All of these are September releases that I need to get through, so here goes the insanity.

The Lady Rogue

I was sold when I saw that this is like Gentleman’s Guide. I mean, I have my things and that’s definitely one of them.

Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove, #1)

Another one that I’m totally intrigued by and very glad that I have! It sounds so interesting. Also, that cover is amazing.

Mother Knows Best

I love thrillers and I think this one is gonna be a good one.

A Treason of Thorns

Love that cover and I love the sound of this book. Gotta love magic and stuff that sounds like a play on historical fiction.

The Grace Year

I grabbed this one when it was Read Now on Netgalley. I’m very intrigued by it. Kinda gives me Girls with Sharp Sticks vibes.

The 24/6

I really want to get better at unplugging myself. Each time I do it, I feel so much better. But, I need to develop techniques of how to do it. And I think this book will be helpful.

The Tenth Girl

Diverse horror?? That cover has got me going and I cannot wait to read this one.

His Hideous Heart

Ah, Edgar. I love you and your crazy stories. And these are all YA retellings! A few of my favorite authors have short stories in it, so I cannot wait to dive into this.

Following in the Footsteps of Henry Tudor: A Historical Guide from Pembroke to Bosworth

I saw this on Netgalley one day and I pounced on it. I really want to know more about Henry VII, but there just aren’t many books out there. I’m hoping that this will be a good one!

We Speak in Storms

I was invited to do a blog tour that includes this book. Not expecting that! So, last-minute addition since I’m excited to be doing my first-ever tour.

Classics

One week I did a major purge of my shelves. I got rid of books that I’ll never reread. Some of the books I pulled off were classics. Aka, books I’ve read and enjoyed but I don’t know if I want to keep them. I’m rereading these four to see if I want to keep them. I’m going to read about one a week, including The Great Gatsby, since all of these are so small.

The Lion in Winter

I read this in 2015 and gave it four stars. It’s historical fiction and yeah. We’ll see how it measures up!

The Crucible

I read this in my sophomore year of high school (2011-2012) and thought it was really good. I’ve read it since then but I haven’t read it in years.

The Garden of Eden

This is the only book by Ernest Hemingway that I like. No joke. I hate everything but this book. But, I haven’t read it since 2013 and I want to see if I still feel that way about it.

Horror

I’m trying to do better at reading horror this year. I haven’t been in the mood for it, I guess! But, I’m getting into it again. These are books I’ve been dying to read/reread lately (Doctor Sleep was here until I moved it up).

A Dark Matter

I’ve never read anything by Straub, but I’ve owned this book forever. I also know that he and Stephen King have worked together before, so I find this really promising.

Historical Women

Yes, still pushing through this! These are a couple books I own and have wanted to read for a while.

The Wives of Henry VIII

I’m on a big Fraser kick. And I have a feeling this will be the best one I read on the topic.

Josephine: A Life of the Empress

France isn’t a big area of history that I delve into, but I own this one and I found Josephine very interesting when I read a Napoleon biography.

Random

And, as usual, the random books I’m also looking to read that aren’t included in my challenges.

Our Own Private Universe

A couple of months ago, I was on a big Robin Talley kick. I got this book while in Portland and I want to read this one soon.

Little & Lion

This one’s been on my mental list of books I’ve heard good things about but I’m not sure if I want to read them. Finally decided that I am going to read this.

Like a Love Story

Another book that I want to read because it’s diverse and queer and yeah. Plus Mackenzi blurbed it.

These Witches Don't Burn (These Witches Don't Burn, #1)

I’m very excited about this book and I just want to devour it. I have a feeling I’ll read it pretty fast because it’s small.

Lost and Wanted

I was set to do a buddy read for this one back in May, but I dropped out and canceled it because of my sister. This one deals a lot with grief. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I wasn’t ready to tackle it.

The Golden Hour

I got this as a BotM choice one month because I saw it had the Duke and Duchess of Windsor as characters. Royalty is my kryptonite.

Sea Witch Rising (Sea Witch #2)

I’m so damn excited for this one. I’m also going to the release party for it on the day it’s published!

One of Us: The Story of a Massacre in Norway -- and Its Aftermath

I got into a huge true crime mood at the end of July, so I impulsively picked this one up. And omfg it is amazing. If you have to read any true crime book, I highly recommend this one. It’s fantastic and I’m anticipating that I’ll finish it up within days of this blog post.

Jade War (The Green Bone Saga, #2)

I started this as soon as I could get my hands on a copy. Aka, when it came out. And it’s a thick one so I’m making my way through it a bit at a time! Utterly fantastic.

Schedule

The new schedule! Not much is changing, tbh. But, I’ve decided to take on a couple more tags and switch the days out on some things.

  • Tuesdays: Top Ten Tuesday
  • Wednesdays: WWW Wednesday
  • Thursdays: Down the TBR Hole and random tag
    • Switch of per each every other week
  • Fridays: First Lines Friday and First Impression Friday
    • I first saw FIF on Kristin’s blog and now I want to steal it. Switching off on each one each week.

Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Les Liaisons dangereuses

I literally have no clue what this is about but it’s described as scandalous and caused a lot of outcry when it was published. Count. Me. In.

Verdict: Keep

Death Watch (The Undertaken, #1)

Eh. On one hand, it sounds like my kind of thing. On the other, it kinda doesn’t. So, I’m really torn on this one.

Verdict: GO!

Middlemarch

You know what I’ve finally realized? I really don’t want to read this.

Verdict: GO!

The Myth of Sanity: Divided Consciousness and the Promise of Awareness

I don’t like the use of multiple personality since it brings to mind DID. I knew someone with that diagnosis and this author already pisses me off by taking that phrase and trying to twist the meaning. It’s like the word “cult”; it’s highly charged with a certain popular meaning that doesn’t match the academic one.

Verdict: GO!

Predators: Pedophiles, Rapists, And Other Sex Offenders

With the profession that I’m going into, I’ll probably be running into sex offenders often. Whether through their survivors or identifying people who have gone through that trauma or actually working with people who are sex offenders. (Not a population I want to work exclusively with, but you never know the client who will walk through your door.) So, I’ll see about reading this.

Verdict: Keep

The Anatomy of Evil

I think that the idea is interesting — 22 levels of evil — but I don’t know how it’ll pan out in the end. It could either be very good or very bad.

Verdict: Keep

Man's Search for Meaning

I think this is one of those books that I’ll pick up when I’m feeling very depressed and just need some glimmer of hope.

Verdict: Keep

The Seventh Wife of Henry VIII : Katherine Willoughby, The Woman who Almost Became his Last Queen

This book sounds like a huge reach. Because, from my knowledge, Katherine Willoughby wasn’t going to be married by Henry VIII. She was the widow of his best friend, Charles Brandon. I doubt that he would have done that since they died within a couple years of each other.

Verdict: Keep (for the laughs)

King Hereafter

This is a novel about the real Macbeth. I think that sounds fascinating. And I’m going to have to see if I can find it through my library!

Verdict: Keep

Elizabeth Woodville: Mother of the Princes in the Tower

I really want to read a biography about Elizabeth Woodville. She’s one of those women who has lurked in the background of many Wars of the Roses books I’ve read. And I want to know more about her specifically.

Verdict: Keep

Tommy's Tale

Doesn’t look like my thing anymore.

Verdict: GO!

Madame de Pompadour: A Life

I want to read another biography about Madame de Pompadour. The other one I read wasn’t what I wanted it to be and this one has a slightly better rating.

Verdict: Keep

Henry: Virtuous Prince

Believe it or not, I’ve never read a book by Starkey. I’m kinda hesitant because of his iffy reputation. Still, I’d like to give him a go.

Verdict: Keep

The Winner's Curse (The Winner's Trilogy, #1)

I have no idea why I added this book to my TBR.

Verdict: GO!

Singularity

This looks okay. I read Obscura as an ARC (same author) and I enjoyed it. But I don’t feel a pull to read it.

Verdict: GO!

The Vines

Again, I don’t know why I added this. I’ve never really been interested in Christopher Rice as an author. His stuff doesn’t sound like my thing.

Verdict: GO!

The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher

I know that Hilary Mantel is a good author. But I just want her to get off her butt and finish the Thomas Cromwell trilogy, you know?

Verdict: GO!

Brainwash: The Secret History of Mind Control

I’ve burnt myself on poli-sci nonfiction. So, will I read this one day? Maybe. Right now? Nope. In the near future? Probably not.

Verdict: GO!

Look Behind You

Eh? Looks like I’d get annoyed by it within minutes.

Verdict: GO!

Henry VIII: Man and Monarch

This one sounds super interesting. I like the idea of different authors writing different pieces about Henry’s life.

July TBR

Caidyn's TBR

Hello, all!

I can’t believe that this is the seventh month of the year. Shocking. And, as usual, I’m going to make myself an ambitious TBR.

ARCs

As usual, I have a lot of ARCs that I need to get through. Y’all shouldn’t be surprised by this anymore.

House of Salt and Sorrows

This one’s a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, but also super dark. I’ve been reading it already so there are definitely major trigger warnings, but it’s so damn good!

The Victim

In some ways, this reminds me of No Exit by Taylor Adams (which I loved). So, I’m hoping that this is a really good thriller!

The Birthday Girl

When I was a teenager, I loved de la Cruz. I read, like, all of that stupid vampire series she wrote. No joke. All of them. But, I’ve decided to give this one a try! It sounds interesting and it was a freebie on Edelweiss a while back.

The Doll Factory

I got randomly chosen for this one — as in, I didn’t request it but the publisher gave it to me — so I’m going to see how much I like it! It sounds interesting, so the worst that can happen is me not liking it.

The Hidden Things

Again, sounds super interesting! I’m a little worried that it’ll have too much going on, but it still sounds interesting to me.

The Whisper Man

I’ve been seeing this all over bookstagram for months. And now I’m going to finally dive into it!

The Reckless Oath We Made

I make no secret that I loved Greenwood’s first book. And so I’m really excited that I got approved for her second book! It sounds so good and like it will win me over like the first one did.

Alexander the Great: His Life and His Mysterious Death

I don’t know much about Alexander the Great. He’s one of those historical figures you just know about without really knowing much about him. So, I’m kinda excited to see how I like this!

The Passengers

I really enjoyed The One by this same author, so when I heard he was coming out with a new book this year, I found it on Edelweiss and got it. It sounds like it’ll be a fun sci-fi/thriller!

Present through the End: A Caring Companion's Guide for Accompanying the Dying

I requested this one and, admittedly, I’m a bit nervous about it. I think it’ll be great info (especially since it’s endorsed by Ira Byock), but I’m worried that it’ll get to me.

The Madness Blooms

I might not be on Twitter, but I haven’t been ignorant of the drama around it. I requested this from Edelweiss long before all of this started. Chantel started it before me and was enjoying it a lot, but felt bad because of all the drama. Right now, I’m halfway through and I’m almost 100% sure mine will be a glowing review.

Historical Women

As usual, I have a couple books that I want to read about some awesome women through the ages.

The Romanovs: 1613-1918

Yes, the Romanov dynasty is largely about men. But, holy crap, they had some awesome early women empresses. Seriously. They were pretty BA before Paul took that away.

Athenais: The Life of Louis XIV's Mistress, the Real Queen of France

I’ve owned this book for a pretty long time so I feel like it’s finally time to read it. Also, it sounds like it’ll be an interesting read.

Classics

Another couple of classics that I have planned! Might read more, but who knows.

Lord Edgware Dies

I’ll definitely be reading this very soon. Reread for me, but I remember nothing about it so that’ll make it fun!

A Tale of Two Cities

This is one of my favorite classics and I’m very excited to be reading this with Virginia!!

Others

And, as usual, I have other things that don’t fit into a distinct category.

Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales

I tried to read this one a few months ago, but I really want to try it again. Might not work out, but I’m going to give it a try.

Jade City (The Green Bone Saga, #1)

I read this last year (my review) and the sequel is coming out! That means it’s time for a reread to refresh my memory!

The Hindus: An Alternative History

I’ve seen some mixed reviews for this, but I’m still super interested in checking it out. It’s also on my top ten list for this year.

Love From A to Z

This isn’t my usual thing. But, Melanie and Amy are reading this for their book club, so I’m going to give it a try!

Sky in the Deep

Last year, I read this book (my review) and thought it was pretty good. I have an ARC for the “sequel”. Time to reacquaint myself with the world!

The Art of Breaking Things

I received this book from the publisher. Seriously, it reminds me of Sadie and it makes me want to read it. Also, that cover is amazing.

Sorcery of Thorns

This sounds like it’s going to be an interesting read. I’ve seen so many good reviews for it (and I got it thanks to Owlcrate’s June box) that I have to read it.

With the Fire on High

Again, not my usual read. But, I think that it sounds good and I think that I’ll enjoy it. Plus, that damn cover and the naked book is absolutely gorgeous.

Nocturna (A Forgery of Magic, #1)

I read the first chapter of this from the library and, well, it completely got me. So, I bought myself a copy! Very, very excited to dive into this new series.

Unsinkable: The Full Story Of The RMS Titanic

I’ve always had a small obsession with the Titanic. Always. Ever since I was a kid. And, I really would like to read this, even though it’s small for a full history.

Verdict: Keep

The Book of Strange New Things

The reviews for this aren’t thrilling. And the description sounds pretty boring. It’s one of those I could like, but it just doesn’t sell itself well.

Verdict: GO!

The Peripheral

Eh? Sounds like a Black Mirror episode, but in a boring way.

Verdict: GO!

Creed

Meh? Sounds a bit boring.

Verdict: GO!

Doomed Queens

I’ve read too many books like this one tbh.

Verdict: GO!

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany

This is one of those books I really want to read, even though it’d take me about three to six months.

Verdict: Keep

Six Wives: The Queens of Henry VIII

I’ve heard iffy things about this book. Lots of mixed reviews. I’m going to remove it for now, but one day I might read it anyways.

Verdict: GO!

Falls the Shadow (Falls the Shadow #1)

The reviews for this one aren’t that great, but that cover is fantastic.

Verdict: GO!

Fearscape (Horrorscape, #1)

I’ve been wanting to read this for ages and I have it on my Kindle. I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet.

Verdict: Keep

The Last Queen

I’d rather read about Juana in a nonfiction book.

I think this was back when I thought Charles Todd was a good author. Now? Nah.

Carved in Bone (Body Farm, #1)

I’d rather read about actual body farms and the things they’re finding.

Verdict: GO!

The Magician

Doesn’t sound that interesting tbh.

Verdict: GO!

Lady Jane Grey: A Tudor Mystery

I love Eric Ives. He did an amazing biography of Anne Boleyn so I know that I’ll be checking this book out at some point.

Verdict: Keep

The Children Act

This sounds like McEwan before he got really weird with his last couple of books.

Verdict: Keep

A Dangerous Method: The Story of Jung, Freud & Sabina Spielrein

I’ve tried to read this multiple times and I just don’t think that it’s going to happen.

This still sounds absolutely amazing tbh.

Historical fiction written by a historian???? Sign me tf up.

Consumption

I don’t know? It doesn’t look like I can get it anywhere but I’m still mildly interested in it.

ARCs

I had more ARCs for this month, but I narrowed them down by doing some reading sprints. Technically, only two of these need to be read by next month.

Wilder Girls

I’ve had my eye on this story for a while so I’m really happy that Netgalley granted me this book! I’m planning on getting to it pretty soon since I’m excited to see what happens in it!

The Escape Room

I actually started this one, so I know it’s a solid read! It has such an interesting premise — four people stuck in an escape room, but the clues are about Sara Hall, a young woman who worked at the firm and is now called “now gone but not forgotten”. It’s also told in two perspectives, inside the elevator escape room and from Sara’s which seems to be in the past. Let’s just say, I’m super excited to see how it turns out!

The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War, #2)

For once in my life, Netgalley and Edelweiss approved me for this thing. Even more exciting than that, I’m reading this with the ever wonderful Sam @ Tinted Prose. Super hyped for this book and the buddy read.

Historical Women

I’m still making headway on this challenge! I’m planning on reading two books this month that fit into my challenge.

Mary Queen of Scots

Ever since I went and saw Mary Queen of Scots, I’ve wanted to read about this woman. I’m doing a buddy read with Jaynie and I’m very happy that I’m finally getting this book off of my TBR.

Princesses: The Six Daughters of George III

I don’t know a whole lot about George III, but I think that I’ll enjoy learning about his daughters as a bridge into knowing more about him. For me, he’s the king involved in the American Revolution. Which I have zero interest in learning about. But, his kids? Fascinating.

Others

And, onto all the others that I’m going to read. I’m hoping to have a few queer ones included in this since, you know, it is Pride.

George

Believe it or not, I’ve never read this. I own it but I’ve never had the courage to read it. I love the idea of trans books (since, you know, I am trans) but it’s hard to find ones that I actually like. So, I’m very interested to see how a middle-grade novel handles the topic!

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1)

Since I’ll be reading the sequel with Sam, we’re also going to reread the first one! It was a favorite of mine from last year, so I’m really excited to catch new details and relive the story.

Grey Sister (Book of the Ancestor, #2)

I read the first book, Red Sister, in April so I really want to read the rest of this series. I own all of them so, I mean, I need to get on this. Especially since his next series is set in this same world!

If We Were Villains

Alright, y’all. Y’all have hyped this fucker enough that I’m going to read it. That is, if my hold comes in before June is over.

Radio Silence

I’m halfway through this right now and I’m 100% sure that I’ll be on the Alice Oseman train from here on out. So, obviously, my goal is to finish this during the month!

The Big Four

This book is a reread for me, but I don’t remember it so I want to re-experience it during my Poirot reread!

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe

I grew up on this movie and I read this a few years ago. I’ve been in the mood to reread it for months and it’s queer so, basically, this is the perfect book to pick up during the month!

The Night Circus

Another reread for me, tbh. I’m just in the mood for it. Probably because I preordered the exclusive Waterstone edition of her new book.

Chameleon Moon (Chameleon Moon, #1)

I read this book four years ago and I really want to read the second book. But I don’t remember much from this book besides that it’s on my all time favorites shelf. Time for a reread before I go onto the second book.

Contagion (Contagion, #1)

I’m currently reading this as well and it’s just so good! I’m excited to read the rest of it. And, if I keep liking it, the sequel since it comes out in July.

Miracle Creek

This was a Book of the Month choice a bit ago and I got a wild feeling last month to pick it up one day. I wasn’t wrong and it’s really good!

Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1)

Another one y’all made me pick up. (Helps that the final book is coming out later this year, too!) Fingers crossed that I like it!

Release

Chantel recommended this one to me when I asked for some queer books to read this month. I know she loves Ness but I’ve heard such mixed reviews of this one that I’m interested to see what I think of it!

Down the TBR Hole

Because She Loves Me

I’ve been wanting to read this forever, but I’ve never gotten around to it. Reading the description still has me very interested in it!

Verdict: Keep

The Dying Game: A Curious History of Death

I’ve already read Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach and I had a practicum in hospice. So I don’t really know how much more I can learn about the history of death and the things that happen to bodies.

Verdict: GO!

Trainspotting

You know what? I’ve just not interested in this book.

Verdict: GO!

A Journal of the Plague Year

This is one of those books I want to read because it’s a first-hand account of plague. Yet, I also know that it’s going to be super boring and detailed and my eyes might start bleeding while I read.

Verdict: GO!

The Haunted Hotel: A Mystery of Modern Venice

Eh. I dunno. It doesn’t sound that interesting to me.

Verdict: GO!

Mystic River

I’ve wanted to read this book forever, but I know that it’s very hard to read and will probably scar me emotionally. So, I’ve been saving it for the right time. That time just hasn’t come yet.

Verdict: Keep

Wildwood Dancing (Wildwood, #1)

While I really like the cover, I don’t think I’d like the book.

Verdict: GO!

Third Girl

It’s Poirot, so I’m going to read it.

Verdict: Keep

The Palace Job (Rogues of the Republic, #1)

A heist book? You know I’m going to read it. I just need to find a copy.

Verdict: Keep

Parade's End

I think I wanted to read this because of the miniseries. Years later, I’ve never watched the miniseries or read this book.

Verdict: GO!

Last TBR: 1593

Books kept: 4

Books removed: 6

Current TBR: 1580

The count continues to go down! I’m doing my best to read books off my TBR, so I think that really helps. Or when someone likes my “review” for a book and I don’t recognize the title, I go to see what the book is. Usually I remove it from my TBR!
