Top Ten Tuesday – New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2018

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018!

2018 was the year I really discovered some authors! I’ve only included ones that I enjoyed reading, plus links to the books I read by them that will take you to the reviews.

The Wicker KingThe Legend of the Golden Raven: A Novella of The Wicker King

  • K. Ancrum

This year, I decided to finally read these two books. I really enjoyed The Wicker King (although, I can’t see myself reading it again) and I thought The Legend of the Golden Raven was just okay. Either way, I’m hoping to get my hands on a copy of The Weight of Stars so I can read it and branch out into sci-fi some more!

Reign of the Fallen (Reign of the Fallen, #1)Song of the Dead (Reign of the Fallen #2)

  • Sarah Glenn Marsh

This year, I delved into this fantastic series! I enjoyed both books. Song of the Dead is coming out later this month, but I was blessed enough to receive an ARC of it. (Also, Sarah is such a sweetheart. I’m serious. If she ever comes to Kansas for a book event, I’ll die.) But, this series was fun and diverse and I can’t wait to reread it.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

  • Taylor Jenkins Reid

While I sincerely think that this might be a one-off author for me, I adored this book and it gave me a huge appreciation for the author. I know this is going to be on many lists because it was just that good.

Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1)Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children, #2)Beneath the Sugar Sky (Wayward Children, #3)In an Absent Dream (Wayward Children, #4)

  • Seanan McGuire

Despite this author being all over my dash and very popular, I’ve never read her. I didn’t until Chantel told me to with this series. I binged it all this year, needless to say. I was extremely lucky to get an ARC of In an Absent Dream. While that wasn’t my favorite in the series, I’m very excited for the fifth book!

Jade City (The Green Bone Saga #1)

  • Fonda Lee

This was an amazing Asian fantasy. I really enjoyed it and I’m so glad that I read it. I didn’t think I would like it, but I did. And, I’m even more excited for the sequel coming out this year, Jade War.

Furyborn (Empirium, #1)Sawkill Girls

  • Claire Legrand

I discovered Legrand this year, but I found she was hit-or-miss with me. I DNFed Furyborn (although, I intend to go back and try it again later this year) and I really enjoyed Sawkill Girls. Either way, I can’t wait to see where this author goes with her work!

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2)Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3)

  • Jay Kristoff/Amie Kaufman

After years of ignoring the hype around these books, I finally decided to read them. Because, why not? But, I read them and generally enjoyed them. Either way, I’m going to keep my eye out for the new series they’ll be writing!

  • Courtney Summers

When the hype hit for this book, I was nervous about it. But, finally, I decided to give it a try and I’m really glad that I did. It was excellent. Definitely a favorite from last year. While I don’t know if I’ll read all of the author’s work (All the Rage looks good, but too much for me to handle), I’ll be keeping an eye out for her.

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1)

  • R.F. Kuang

This book destroyed me and built me back up. I love adult fantasy and it reminded me why. Especially Asian inspired. 2018 was a great year for Asian authors, tbh. And, I’m going to be over here dying for the sequel.

Strange GraceThe Queens of Innis Lear

  • Tessa Gratton

This is another author I’m fifty-fifty on. I really enjoyed Strange Grace but DNFed The Queens of Innis Lear. But, as with Legrand, I’m going to come back to the one I DNFed to give it a second chance.

Talk to me!
Did you read any of these authors in 2018?
Are you going to in 2019?
