Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole

Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Let the Right One In

This is actually on my mental TBR for October or November. I also own it and desperately want to watch the movie.

Verdict: Keep

Dreams and Shadows (Dreams & Shadows, #1)

I also own a copy of this book and it still sounds interesting to me, so I think that it’ll stay where it is for the time being.

Verdict: Keep

The Art of Fielding

Like, it sounds okay, but also like I’d have to be in the right mood to read it. I also do not remember anything about this book or why I initially added it. Probably that I liked the title and cover.

Verdict: GO!

Arbella: England's Lost Queen

Having read Daughters of the Winter Queen: Four Remarkable Sisters, the Crown of Bohemia, and the Enduring Legacy of Mary, Queen of Scots by Nancy Goldstone earlier this year, I think I’d like to follow it up with this one. It sounds pretty interesting.

Verdict: Keep

Rain of the Ghosts

Eh. It doesn’t sound that interesting tbh. I’d rather see some more reviews from friends before I pick it up.

Verdict: GO!

Can You Forgive Her?

I’ve had this on my TBR since 2014 and I still think that this sounds like a fantastic book. It’s old and sounds like a great character study.

Verdict: Keep

Hunting the Devil: The Pursuit, Capture and Confession of the Most Savage Serial Killer in History

Ah, Andrei Chikatilo. You fucking creepy. (Literally, he grosses me out with some of the stuff that he did. Scratch that, all of the stuff he did.) Pretty sure I added this because a friend told me that I should check it out since he was her favorite serial killer. But, it still sounds fascinating, although I’d have to track down a copy of this.

Verdict: Keep

All Our Names

This is definitely an ownvoices novel, but it also doesn’t look quite up my alley anymore.

Verdict: GO!

The Enchanted

While the book sounds interesting and quite a few of my friends have read this, I’m not entirely sure that I want to read it. If that makes any sense at all.

Verdict: GO!

Black Moon

First, I love the cover. It’s amazing looking. However, I don’t think that the description is really for me.

Verdict: GO!

Last TBR: 1967

Books kept: 5

Books removed: 5

Current TBR: 1956

So proud. So excited. Maybe I’ll get this down to 1800 one day.

And, as always:

Talk to me!
Have you read any of these books?
Did I make any right or wrong choices?

  1. Ugh Chikatilo is such a nasty one. I haven’t read that book but I read another on him, I think called The Red Ripper, it something with that in the title. It wasn’t an extraordinary literary masterpiece but it was interesting enough with some good cultural context of the Soviet Union and how it contributed to his going uncaught for so long. I mention it because I think it’s easier to get a copy of if you just want to learn more about his crimes and the atmosphere.

    • Funny enough, there are people who have larger ones than me! I’ve seen people on Goodreads with thousands of books on their TBR. But, I’ve slimmed it down since starting this!
